Thomas Kim
Thomas Kim is the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of directors of The UNX Companies LLC. Under his leadership, UNX aims to make a lasting contribution to the capital markets by helping to improve the technology standards in how institutions trade electronically with their broker-dealer counterparts and how broker-dealers and other 3rd party vendors can deliver proprietary content in a more meaningful way, all through UNX's open technology Catalyst EMS and Portal. Thomas' background uniquely prepares him to lead UNX in its next evolution to not only deliver innovative and practical electronic trading solutions but also equip clients to take control over those solutions through the UNX SDK.
Prior to joining UNX, Thomas served as Managing Director at Lehman Brothers and led the effort in building a global institutional EMS business through the acquired Townsend Analytics subsidiary. Prior to his appointment at Lehman Brothers, Thomas also served as the Chief Operating Officer and Treasurer of TradingScreen Inc., a global provider of automated trade execution and trade-related products and services; Chief Operating Officer of Mandarin Capital Technologies, a global provider of market data, analytics and securities execution platforms; and Chief Operating Officer for FinancialSockets, a global provider of institutional commission management solutions.
Jay Hatho
Jay is UNX's Chief Technology Officer and leads all technology engineering and technology operations teams. Working closely with the product development group, Jay and the technology organization are responsible for building, delivering, and operating the UNX technology products. Prior to joining UNX in 2000, Jay was director of engineering and program manager at Compaq Computer Corporation for over five years and has also served in various roles in DynaRep, Inc., Toshiba America PC Engineering and Cargoexchange.net.
Jay is a graduate of California State University at Fullerton with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
Brian Spengemann
Brian is the head of the UNX sales organization. With over 15 years of experience in sales and trading, he leads all UNX sales and business development initiatives. Prior to joining UNX in 2009, Brian held senior sales and coverage roles at Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse, focusing primarily on quantitative accounts, trading via algorithms, portfolio trading and listed derivatives. Brian started Credit Suisse's non-Dollar portfolio trading business in New York as well as local portfolio trading desks in Hong Kong and Tokyo. Prior to Merrill Lynch and Credit Suisse, he worked in portfolio trading and fixed income trading at Lehman Brothers and Bankers Trust. Brian began his career in theoretical biophysics at Los Alamos National Laboratory (US Department of Energy).
Brian is a graduate of St. John's College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Philosophy.
Brady Ballentine
Brady is the head of UNX's client service organization where he has the corporate mandate to not only implement service as a differentiator but also ensure that the client experience is as important as the innovative products that UNX delivers. He oversees all client facing services such as Transition Services, Electronic Trading Services, Back Office Brokerage Services and also sets the standard of product quality by leading the Quality Assurance team. Prior to joining UNX in 2000, Brady provided management consulting services as a principal with a boutique consulting firm and as a senior consultant with Arthur Andersen Business Consulting.
Brady is a graduate of Butler University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance.
Stephen Squire
Stephen is UNX’s General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer. He is responsible for the legal and operational oversight, guidance, and direction for the firm providing legal advice on all organizational, regulatory, intellectual property and general legal matters arising within the firm. Prior to joining UNX in 2003, Stephen managed the Legal and Compliance Department for a general securities broker-dealer and its affiliated registered investment advisor; and prior to this, Stephen served as the Chief Compliance Officer of a self-clearing NYSE member broker-dealer after starting his financial services career working with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (f/k/a the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc.).
Stephen is a member of the California Bar.
Ruth Colagiuri
Ruth is the head of UNX’s Product Management organization. In this role, she is charged with providing global capabilities across asset classes to a broad range of financial markets clients via UNX’s open architecture, next-generation technology Catalyst EMS, as well as enabling broker-dealers and vendors to deliver content and solutions via the UNX SDK and Catalyst Portal distribution hub. Previously, Ruth was head of Americas Execution products at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York, joining Merrill Lynch in 2001 where she was a member of the Electronic Trading business from its inception. Ruth began her career in Sydney, Australia at Bankers Trust and then Macquarie Bank, developing and supporting trading systems for Foreign Exchange, Equity Derivatives and Cash Equity.
Ruth is a graduate of the University of Sydney and holds an honors degree in Electrical Engineering majoring in Information Systems Engineering.
